Language Liaisons Meet & Greet

Interpreters and Translators gathered at The Well in Hockessin, DE as we welcomed new language professionals into the field and had professional discussion on important topics and challenges like how to handle being asked to fill out forms, the dynamics of family members in interpreting sessions, interpreting in mental health, what to do when the unexpected happens and more! The conversation was SO good we are doing this again in the late summer! Did we mention how good the coffee and food is at The Well?!?! We are very thankful to The Well for hosting our event and for everyone’s enthusiasm in spending a Saturday morning with us as we seek to learn and better each other.
We were able to share a great resource, InterpreTIPS by Cross-Cultural Communications, with our team when a question about filling out forms was asked. A recent InterpreTIP by Katharine Allen addressed the logistic side of that question. In other words, what do you do when provider wants you, the interpreter, to fill out forms alone with the patient or client? Marjory Bancroft tackled a different aspect of the question here — if providers are treating patients in a discriminatory way by leaving them alone with interpreters and forms. See what you think about this messy issue!

See you next time!
